Focus and Scope
Lex Cendekia: Journal of Advanced Legal Studies focuses on strengthening the dialectics of contemporary law through the publication of original research that emphasizes legal reform and critical thinking. The journal’s primary focus is to bridge the gap between abstract legal theory and empirical realities in society. This journal positions intellectualism as the driving force for evaluating the effectiveness of regulations, dissecting legal anomalies, accommodating progressive religious-legal paradigms, and formulating a vision for a more humanistic and just legal future. By emphasizing advanced legal studies, this journal directs every manuscript to possess a depth of analysis capable of influencing public policy at both the national and international levels.
The scope of this journal is designed to comprehensively accommodate the diverse spectrum of modern legal scholarship, which is divided into six main clusters:
(1) Digital Law, Innovation, and Technological Transformation (Digital Law & Technology)
In light of the rapid pace of digital disruption, this area focuses on regulatory challenges in cyberspace. Topics covered include artificial intelligence law (AI Law), personal data protection, digital asset governance, and legal ethics in medical technology and biotechnology. Research in this field is crucial to ensuring that technological advancements remain within legal frameworks that protect individual rights and national sovereignty.
(2) International Economic Law and Sustainable Development (Global Economic Law & Sustainability)
This cluster covers the legal dynamics of international business transactions, investment law, and their interconnection with environmental issues. The primary focus is on how legal regulations can support sustainable development (Sustainable Development Goals) without compromising economic stability. Here, the role of “intellectuals” is tested in formulating economic policies that are inclusive and ecologically responsible.
(3) Socio-Legal Studies & Human Rights
This area examines the dynamic interaction between law and human social behavior. Given the importance of a humanistic approach, this scope provides space for research that dissects how law operates within society (law in action), including issues of protecting vulnerable groups, access to justice, and the impact of legal policies on the psychosocial well-being of society. This cluster views law not merely as text, but as a sociological instrument that must be adaptive to human needs.
(4) Contemporary Islamic Jurisprudence and Progressive Society (Islamic Law & Maqashid al-Shariah)
This newly integrated cluster addresses the intersection of Islamic legal traditions (Shariah) with modern socio-legal challenges. Rooted in the paradigm of Maqashid al-Shariah (the ultimate objectives of Islamic law), this scope provides a platform for research that recontextualizes Islamic jurisprudence in response to contemporary empirical realities. Topics include the transformation of Islamic economic law, digital disruption in Islamic finance, and the reform of family law within a modern state structure. Research in this area is expected to offer progressive solutions that harmonize Islamic legal principles with universal human rights and the complex demands of a modern, pluralistic society.
(5) Criminal Justice and Restorative Policy
This area explores transformations in criminal law enforcement, ranging from procedural law reform to the implementation of restorative justice. Research focuses on evaluating the correctional system, witness and victim protection, and the prevention of transnational crime. The goal is to create a justice system that not only punishes but also restores social harmony and human dignity.
(6) Modern Legal Theory and Jurisprudence (Theoretical Jurisprudence)
This cluster explores the philosophical foundations of the ever-evolving legal system. Its focus includes the analysis of classical legal doctrines reinterpreted in a modern context, contemporary legal philosophy, and the development of innovative legal research methodologies. Research in this cluster aims to enrich the intellectual discourse on the nature of justice and legal legitimacy amidst shifting global paradigms.
